Plunging into the retail sector, IBM is marketing HostConnect for the 4680 Operating System Remote Operator Feature through its Cooperative Software Programme, but the software is published and licensed by Remoteware Inc. It is a new System/370 MVS/XA VTAM application that enables the 4680 Remote Operator Feature on a Personal Computer or PS/2 to use an SDLC network to communicate with 4680 store controllers. Once a session has been initiated, all functions of the 4680 Feature will be available, enabling multiple store sessions per user while taking advantage of existing SDLC links. HostConnect for the 4680 Operating System Remote Operator Feature, available from February 2, costs $50,000, and additional licences are $10,000.
