IBM Corp says that while demand for the 3090S models has been very strong, contrary to comments made by SoundView Financial, it does still have some S model mainframes available for fourth quarter ships: it told customers on October 28 that special the discounts to encourage upgrades from E models to Ss will be withdrawn in 60 days – all of which suggests that the sudden euphoria among analysts over the company’s fourth quarter figures (CI No 1,048) may be overdone.
