IBM STARTS WORLDWIDE 9370 SHIPS TWO MONTHS EARLY

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM has begun volume shipments of the 9373 Model 20 and the 9375 Model 60 and says that the shipments are two months ahead of schedule, although at announcement time the company said only third quarter rather than a specific month. That is the upside; the downside is that IBM says it expects to ship only about 5,000 of the machines by the end of the year – when Gartner Securities suggested that IBM would ship 8,000 this year, most observers thought the estimate extremely conservative, but it is now shown to have been optimistic. IBM says that this is the first time it has made a new machine available simultaneously on a worldwide basis.
