According to Stuart McRae, worldwide marketing manager for xSeries, IBM will cut prices by up to 6% on selected x236, x336, x346 and IntelliStation M Pro servers.
McRae added that the company is also adding more AMD-based one-way and two-way Series servers to its Express product lineup in a bid to target more small and medium sized businesses.
We now have an aggressive list price on every model aimed at SMBs, McRae said, detailing a special introductory 10% discount on current list prices of its new Express offerings which are available to both channel partners and direct customers.
IBM’s Express portfolio is backed up by a program designed to speed up the delivery of high-volume servers with standard configurations.
IBM’s business partners will be especially pleased with the cuts, many of whom have been saying their customers have been eagerly anticipating a price drop before expanding their server procurements.
IBM’s move is timely coming on the eve of its PartnerWorld conference in Las Vegas next week. It also flows on the heels of a recent announcement by the firm to recruit 5,000 new partners, including SMB solution providers that sell competitor products.
