IBM Corp has signed Czech computer firm Elko Holding as to assemble personal computers at its Prague plant. The venture will be IBM’s first on mainland Europe to produce its PC 300 and PC 100 – whatever that is: Aptiva, presumably – models, currently produced at Greenock, Scotland for all Europe. IBM says the Prague plant has already begun assembling PC 300s, with PC 100s to follow soon. The Prague plant is expected to produce 500 units a month by October, with output rising to 1,500 units within six months. Elko currently employs some 400 people, and 1994 sales totalled $66m. It looks for sales to rise 66% this year.
