IBM SELLS OPTICAL COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY TO TELLABS

By CBR Staff Writer

Most of the majors seem to be deserting optical technology, and IBM Corp’s Thomas J Watson Research Center in Westchester County, New York has sold some of its optical networking technology to Lisle, Illinois- based Tellabs Inc on undisclosed terms. Tellabs also gets several patents and patent applications related to wavelength-division multiplexing and optical networking technologies. Other exclusive and non-exclusive rights to IBM’s patent portfolio in the field of wavelength-division multiplexing and optical networking were also included in the technologies passing to Tellabs.
