AIX Software Development Environment Workbench/6000 Version 1 IBM believes that it has a world-beating software engineering schema with its AIX Software Development Environment WorkBench/6000 Version 1. AIX Software Development Environment Integrator/6000 Version 1 is a companion product that enables users to integrate new and existing software development tools. SDE WorkBench/6000 is said to provide multiple levels of integration including visual integration via a standard user interface. Control Integration enables tools to communicate with each other via messages, and those tools most frequently used during development form a basic set. Program editor support consists of full integration of the vi and GNU EMACS editors available on AIX and a window-based, syntax-directed editor, and choice of editor is user selectable. The program builder is used to create and execute the necessary Make files, while program debugger support has an integrated graphical user interface to the dbx debugger on AIX. The software static analyser provides the ability to find information on uses and definition of function calls automatically and quickly, and the development manager gives the user a graphical, file-oriented view to simplify the location of files. SDE WorkBench/6000 provides integration of a number of software configuration management tools, and this integration enables users to access files managed by the configuration management tools from within other integrated tools. The Tool Manager provides control and customisation of all tools integrated into the SDE WorkBench/6000, and the integrated mail tool provides a graphical interface to the AIX mail facility. The Integrated File Transfer Protocol provides a graphical interface to the TCP/IP File Transfer Protocol, and this enables other integrated tools to invoke the services of the protocol. In a statement of direction, IBM says that the AIX XL C++ Compiler/6000 and Micro Focus Plc Cobol for the RS/6000 can be invoked from the SDE WorkBench/6000 and promises that they will be supported in the edit-compile-debug environment at a later date. The Development Environment will be available May 29. The SDE Workbench/6000 costs between $1,240 to $9,920, between $1,115 and $8,930 for the distributed licence option. SDE Integrator/6000 is from $1,740 to $13,920, $1,565 to $12,530 under the distributed option.
AIXwindows Interface Composer/6000
AIXwindows Interface Composer/6000 is a software development tool for the design and creation of graphical user interfaces for OSF/Motif 1.1 applications. It generates C code automatically, and an in-built interpreter assists with testing and debugging the user interface. It runs under AIX Version 3.2, and it will be available February 21.
AIX InfoCrafter/6000
The AIX InfoCrafter/6000 licensed program is a set of tools that provides a batch-oriented build process for compiling on-line libraries read by the InfoExplorer information retrieval software. On the authoring side, AIX InfoCrafter/6000 accepts input from the Interleaf 5, straight ASCII and FrameMaker 3.0 environments. Support for input from the FrameMaker 3.0 editor will be included via an update to AIX InfoCrafter/6000 to follow on June 19, and InfoCrafter/6000 will ship on February 21.
AIX SDE Workbench/6000 Version 1, SDE Integrator/6000 Version 1
The vision and control integration services of the AIX Software Development Environment WorkBench/6000 Version 1 are based on Hewlett-Packard Co’s Softbench integration framework technology. SDE WorkBench/6000 includes integration of existing editors under AIX; a graphical, language sensitive editor; program build manager; static analysis tools; graphical interface to dbx, integration of software configuration management tools; integrated AIX mail and integrated TCP/IP File Transfer Protocol. AIX Software Development Environment Integrator/6000 Version 1 enables users to integrate new and existing tools. SDE Integrator/6000 also enables users to link tools together to form and execute a basic process. Both are planned to be available
May 29.
AIX Configuration Version Control
AIX Configuration Management Version Control Server/6000 and the AIX CMVC Client/6000 are said to enable developers to manage software develoment and reduce complexity. Design and defect management is integrated with configuration management and version control; project management is facilitated by a report facility; project communication is provided by a notification facility and change history is recorded. A project can be subdivided in a variety of ways, according to the development and maintenance needs of the development group. The source repository is centralised while access is distributed, using a client/server model. Source code currently under Source Code Control System control on AIX can be migrated into the CMVC Server/6000 using the migration tool provided, and an OSF/Motif-based graphical user interface and a command line interface are the user interfaces to the tool. The CMVC Client/6000 supports two modes of operation. One is integrated into the AIX Software Development Environment WorkBench/6000 and complies to the standards and messaging features that the SDE WorkBench/6000 provides; the other is not integrated into the SDE WorkBench/6000. The two modes are compatible and both can exist in the network, although messages from the SDE WorkBench/6000 will only be understood by the SDE WorkBench/6000 integrated client. The CMVC Server/6000 for Oracle will be available on May 29, August 28, 1992 for Informix. CMVC Client/6000 ships May 29.
Library Connector AIX/MVS Version 1, AIX MVS Library Connector/6000
The AIX Library Connector products enable users to connect to the MVS SCLM, Software Configuration and Library Manager, from the RS/6000. SCLM is a component of the Interactive System Productivity Facility/Program Development Facility. The AIX Library Connector products are the Library Connector for AIX/MVS Version 1, which runs on the MVS host, and AIX MVS Library Connector/6000 Version 1, which is integrated into the AIX Software Development Environment WorkBench/6000. AIX MVS Library Connector/6000 requires an RS/6000 Powerstation/Powerserver with either an Ethernet local area network adaptor or a Token-Ring Network Adaptor, plus 4Mb of main memory and 4Mb of fixed disk. Prices go from $4,130 to $85,440, and distributed licence options are from $3,100 to $64,080. Monthly licences range between $86 and $1,780, and between $65 and $1,335 for the distributed licence options.
