IBM rolls out simplified BI bundle

IBM Corp has simplified the packaging of its business intelligence with a single hardware, software and storage bundle.

By CBR Staff Writer

Dubbed, rather long-windedly, IBM Data Warehousing Balanced Configuration Unit (BCU), the solution tightly integrates IBM’s eServer pSeries p5-757 servers, DB2 Data Warehouse Solution and TotalStorage DS4500 products. The BCU bundle runs on Unix and Linux.

IBM says that BCU removes much of the configuration complexity required in constructing BI systems. It comprises a simplified hardware configuration and a pre-installed database configuration. The components have also been calibrated to work together and integrate easily with third-party systems.

By providing a pre-tested BCU option we’re able to offer efficient and high throughput performance configurations for database queries, allowing faster analysis of data, said Karen Parrish, vice president of BI solutions at IBM.

IBM named transaction processing giant First Data Corp as an early adopter of its new BCU bundle.
