IBM Corp last week released the NT version of its Communications Server, bringing NT into a fold that already includes AIX, OS/2, OS/390 and NetWare. The NT Communications Server, $995 plus $69 per client, comes with IBM’s Java-based Host On-Demand to hook to 3270 computer applications via a web browser, an SNA gateway and TN3270E server support. Any-to-any network multiprotocol support lets TCP/IP applications link directly to SNA applications and networks. It also comes with the IBM-Novell co-branded NetWare for SAA SNA gateway. The hardware supported includes IBM’s own WAN and LAN adapters, Eicon Technology Inc’s WAN interface cards and Bus-Tech Inc’s ESCON and parallel bus-and-tag channel adapters. On the software side WRQ Inc is supporting NT Communications Server with its Reflection program.
