The next release of IBM Corp’s OS/390 mainframe operating system, Release V.2.4, due in September, will include more core products and greater server functionality, according to the Meta Group. DFSMS data facility storage management and WLM Workload Management batch management enhancements to the operating system will only be available to V.2 releases including server add-on software such as the Tivoli TME management framework, Encina transaction processing monitor, LAN Services and Lotus Go Web server, forcing them to upgrade to a system priced between 5% and 9% for Parallel Sysplex users, and 15% for tiered users.
