The Armonk, New York-based IT giant debuted its new FileNet P8 4.0, a content management and records management system based on its recent acquisition of FileNet Corp. The release boasts 75 enhancements and is the first major revamp of the product since the October 2006 acquisition.

IBM in parallel also unveiled a new Web 2.0 interface for its Content Manager OnDemand product, which lets client applications to access content via the Web. IBM says it will use the Ajax-based product to provide a unified access layer across all its content management suite.

On the services front, IBM Global Services, the system integration and consulting arm of IBM, also expanded its range of services around FileNet, adding more manpower to its practice. The total number of IBM consultants now focused on FileNet number around 1,000

IBM launched on Demand a year ago to help companies leverage their information as a strategic asset through innovative application uses.

IBM claims that its on Demand business initiatives grew 42% in its fourth quarter.
