IBM PUBLISHING SYSTEM SOLUTIONPAC IS A HARDWARE-SOFTWARE BUNDLE

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM lifted the veil a little on its desk-top publishing plans in the US only – but you had to dig pretty deep to find out what the company is actually planning: there is a note in the US customer letters on the $2,200 laser printer – at present announced only over there, saying that the IBM Personal Pageprinter is for use exclusively with the IBM Personal Publishing System [SolutionPac], and the Publishing System SolutionPac is $8,553; that sounds a lot just for the software – but despite the name, it is actually a hardware-software bundle that includes the 8086-based Model 30, the printer, and Aldus Pagemaker and Microsoft Windows.
