Of course if Carole Patton, editor of Acknowledge The Window Letter is right, and her story means what it seems to mean, there could be a monster shake-up on the way: Ms Patton says that IBM will spin off its Personal Systems line of business into a completely separate corporation within three weeks – but she doesn’t make it clear whether she means a Lexmark-type spin-off where IBM retains a small stake, which would be dramatic, or an AdStar-type spin-off where the company remains wholly-owned, which would be a yawn; she seems to be saying the former, but is travelling and not available to clarify.
