IBM Corp has decided to do a dance of the seven veils with its new mainframe disk arrays, previewing them in the UK yesterday wuth an embargo of 2pm today – and then announcing them to the US press yesterday. Reuter reports that the new line is called the Ramac Array family and offers up to 90.8Gb capacity using 64 2Gb 3.5 disks using RAID technology. Up to four disks are contained in individual drawers, up to 16 of which comprise a rack. They have redundant power supplies and a cooling system, so that they can withstand power interruptions or failure of the fans.
