IBM POWERPARALLEL SYSTEM SALES SO FAR

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM Corp, which started shipping its PowerParallel system in September, says it has shipped 35 of the things so far and expects 30 more orders by the end of the year; the whole parallel sector shipped fewer than 600 machines last year; most of IBM’s are 16-processor systems that cost about $500,000, but it has a few orders for 128-processor systems that cost over $3m each, the Wall Street Journal reported, warning that the business was far from being a gold mine, with vendors slashing prices to win sales.
