No slouch at being two places at once, IBM Corp was also at Comdex in Las Vegas to get its long-gestating chip marketing business moving. It has what it calls A Real Time Interface Co-processor or Artic 32-bit Micro Channel Interface Chip and a Memory Controller Chip. The chips provide fast access between Micro Channel and a 32-bit Local Bus and at 80M-bytes per second can stream data as a Micro Channel bus master or slave. The Memory Controller provides the interface between a 25MHz Intel Corp 80960CA, a 32-bit Local Bus and two separate 32Mb banks of dynamics, and the memory interfaces can be accessed independently for concurrent operation of the 80960CA processor bus and Local Bus. A 16-bit Artic is also available, which acts as the interface for both an 80C186 processor and Micro Channel with up to 2Mb memory. The company gave no price or availability data.
