In addition to the new 2Gb AdStar 3.5 drive – also offered paired up in a 5.25 form factor package to create a 4Gb-equivalent subsystem, announced on Monday (CI No 2,042), IBM also announced that the IBM Deskside High Availability Disk Array, initially announced only for the AS/400, will now be available for the OEM market. The RAID-5 system is designed to support applications requiring large storage capacities, from 800Mb to 7Gb. High availability features include data protection, redundant power and concurrent maintenance, so the array will continue operating in the event of a single drive or single power supply failure; it’s from $25,000, this quarter. IBM also promised an SCSI-2 interface adaptor for the 3490E OEM tape subsystem for third quarter 1993, at $4,975.
