IBM MULLS POWERMAX AS SINGLE DESIGNATION FOR POWER RISC, POWERPC CHIP FAMILIES

Meanwhile, IBM Corp apparently believes that the market is confused about how to differentiate its internal RISC Unix architecture, Power, from PowerPC, the multi-operating system processor developed with Motorola Inc, and so is said to have been working on a solution that, for marketing purposes, could see both architectures branded under a single name. The name PowerMax is understood to have been considered, though that would require the agreement of Apple Computer Inc, being phonetically equivalent to PowerMac(s), the name Apple is using for its PowerPC Mac line.
