IBM Corp is to bundle SCO UnixWare 7 on its Intel-based NetFinity 7000 and PC Servers. UnixWare is IBM’s choice of Unix for 32-bit Intel processors as well as the 64-bit Merced processor, at least for now, says Lineene Krasnow, VP of marketing for NetFinity. We understand the issue of AIX on Merced is being talked about, but not that seriously. AIX on the SP and data warehousing is, of course, keeping the RS/6000 division’s head above water and now that Bill Zeitler’s rallying cry is clear lines and clear lanes greater differentiation between the server products is expected. If NetFinity fails to make inroads and AS/400 stagnates, the analysts won’t be all wrong. Meantime, SCO hopes IBM’s Lotus division may now be moved to put Domino up on UnixWare. It’s so far said there’s no demand for Domino on SCO. Hewlett-Packard Co will ship UnixWare 7 on its NetServer L and Data General Corp will make it available on its non-ccNUMA AViiON servers within 30 days.
