IBM MAY GAIN TRANSMETA AS A CUSTOMER FOR ITS FABS

By CBR Staff Writer

Transmeta Corp, the fabless chip company which has yet to reveal its plans (CI No 3,418) may go to IBM Corp to manufacture its silicon, hears The Register. IBM just lost the business of National Semiconductor Corp subsidiary Cyrix Corp (CI No 3,504). Transmeta is likely to be a Cyrix competitor in the x86 compatible market. IBM already produces Integrated Device Technology Inc’s Centaur x86 compatible.
