IBM MAINFRAME UPGRADES TO BE 5% MORE EXPENSIVE

By CBR Staff Writer

The expectation now that the IBM mainframe upgrades to be announced today will be rather more than 5% more expensive than the models they supplant: the suggestion now is that the price differential will be nearer 8% to 10%, the biggest models carrying the biggest premium – here it could go as high as 15%; IBM may claim as much as 40% performance improvement at the top end – but that is likely to be a combination of 25% faster hardware and the benefits of Enterprise Systems Architecture, although the company may go for an eight-processor too.
