Another top IBMer, William Grabe, vice-president and general manager, marketing and services for IBM US, has jumped ship, becoming a special partner at General Atlantic Partners, the private investment firm with offices in New York and Greenwich, Connecticut. Grabe had overall responsibility for the marketing of IBM’s entire product line in the US including all software and services, and had orchestrated the launch of the AS/400 and had a major hand in the launch of RS/6000, ES/9000 and AD/Cycle, SystemView and the Information Warehouse. He will remain a director of IBM’s Integrated Systems Solutions Corp systems integration arm in Tarrytown, New York. Grabe will work actively with General Atlantic’s $400m portfolio of software companies, with his initial emphasis on Compuware Corp and Synon Corp, joining the boards of both firms. General Atlantic Partners is also an investor in Legent Corp, Goal Systems International Inc, Central Point Software and Walker Interactive Systems Inc.
