IBM links Lotus software to Eurotech devices

IBM Corp is teaming up with Italian embedded computing specialist Eurotech SpA to include its Lotus Mobile Connect Software in Eurotech's line of low power 'NanoPC' embeddable devices.

By CBR Staff Writer

Milan-based Eurotech is best known for its NanoPC designs that include embedded PC chips, network appliances and wearable PCs like Zypad.

Lotus Mobile Connect represents the new version of IBM WebSphere Everyplace Connection Manager V5.1. It includes additional features and closer ties to other Lotus products like Lotus Sametime and Lotus Expeditor.

Embedding the software will allow Eurotech’s devices to connect seamlessly to applications even across different telephony and wireless networks including WiFi, cellular and satellite data communications without having to repeat re-authentications across firewalls.

In effect, the software creates a mobile Virtual Private Network for Internet Protocol networks that secures data through data encryption techniques.

The deal builds on an existing three year collaboration between the two firms in the area of pervasive computing. Eurotech is already working with Arcom Inc and IBM’s Sensor and Actuators group to implement IBM’s Middleware in Eurotech devices.
