IBM LEAD THE AIRWAYS

IBM Corp’s IBM Federal Systems Co leads the team that has won the UKP130m contract to equip the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s new En Route Centre for managing British airspace: the centre is being built in Fareham, Hampshire as part of the UKP750m capital programme aviation authorities are undertaking in a development plan for the next decade; IBM Federal is the prime contractor and will be responsible for the project management, design, provision, installation and testing of the system for controlling all en route air traffic over England and Wales; it is due to become operational in 1996; IBM’s partners include Siemens AG’s Siemens Plessey Systems, EDS-Scicon Ltd, Logica Plc and Frequentis Ltd, IBM said.
