IBM Corp is offering what it describes as a program designed to help airlines develop programs that can improve airline customer services and airport operations without complicated and costly changes to existing systems. The Airline Application Development System is designed to help airlines improve services like baggage handling, reservations and flight information and servicing of planes, gate management, crew scheduling and to provide links to multiple airlines’ reservations systems. USAir says it is developing applications using the system, having participated with IBM in field tests. The software runs on PS/2s under OS/2 Extended Edition 1.3 and comprises nine modules, accessible via multiple screen windows. It will be out on special bid in May.
