Meantime IBM Corp formally launched its first Network Computer based on the Power PC 403- the one from its contract with Network Computing Devices Inc – calling it the IBM Network Station. It can concurrently access Java, Windows NT, Unix, OS/2, OS/400, AIX and MVS as well as Internet and Notes applications. As expected, (CI No 2,980) it supports Netscape Communications Corp’s Navigator 3, customized by the new Navio Corp spin-off. It comes with either ethernet or token ring connection, keyboard, mouse and costs $700 without a monitor. It is due to ship by the end of the year.
