As part of the deal, IBM will take over the operations of Unicible, BCV’s IT services unit. The aim is to transfer Unicible from a captive and proprietary service provider to a multi-platform banking competence centre, the IBM release states.

But IBM spokesperson Adam Emery said that IBM won’t actually be acquiring Unicible, only its business activities, which includes about 330 staff that will transfer to IBM. In future, the centre will provide technology services, consulting services and managed business services to banking groups in addition to BCV, Emery said. The entity will focus on banking applications hosting and consulting.

The deal is scheduled to be implemented in June 2007.
