IBM Japan has embarked on a programme to reorganise its three research and development centres: it wants to relocate its Tokyo Research Laboratory in Chiyoda-ku, and is prospecting for a suitable site; its Yasu Application Technology Laboratory in Shiga prefecture will add another 70 research engineers to bring its complement to 130 from the present 60; and its Yamato Laboratory, which expects to complete its own expansion by the spring, will bring together three separate existing IBM Japan operations, the Tsukiji Office, the Kawasaki Software Centre, and the Fujisawa Factory in Kanagawa prefecture.
