A group of 25 banks, convenience store chains and computer manufacturers in Japan will today launch a financial services company which provides 24-hour, 365-day-a-year cashing services on automated teller machines installed in convenience stores. The senior finance manager of IBM Japan, Takayuki Kamioka, is to be president of the new company, e.NET.

The service will be available at 234 convenience stores in Tokyo, Kanagawa and Shizuoka prefectures from early October and will expand to cover 5,000 locations nationwide within two years. Services available from the machines will also be expanded to encompass investment trusts and electronic money settlements using IC cards. IBM Japan will install, maintain and manage the ATMs.
