We’ve got a problem here with IBM Corp’s parallel offerings, because the company is calling its new 390 multiprocessors parallel, so one is never quite sure whether it is these or the Powerparallel systems under discussion, but this appears to be the mainframes: IBM Japan Ltd has signed up big services company CSK Corp to help it market IBM’s large parallel computers in Japan; the two have set up a joint team to co-operate on the marketing and technical support for the sales of parallel computers within CSK, and will start marketing them to 600 existing CSK customers, about 70% of which currently use IBM’s mainframes; the two companies will try to sell the new parallel ones when the customers’ leases expire, and will try to get users of other manufacturers’ computers to switch.
