IBM JAPAN PLANS TO LICENCE FROM HITACHI

By CBR Staff Writer

Seems the software IBM Japan plans to license from Hitachi Ltd is believed to be for developing applications for the Vector Facility when attached to the 3090 mainframes: according to the Asahi Shimbun, IBM is interested in the scientific and technical calculation programs because it wants to raise the quality of its own software, and is likely to bundle the Hitachi software with the vectors; needless to say, the Japanese are taking the news as a splendid boost to morale and an earnest that their much maligned software industry is reaching the point where the world is going to have to sit up and take notice.
