IBM Japan Ltd has begun marketing an electronic transaction system, CommercePoint Family, to facilitate the opening and operation of internet storefronts, according to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun. The system processes orders sent over the net using the international Secure Electronic Transactions standard, with IBM Japan claiming to be the first Japanese computer company to adopt the SET standard. The system links banks and distributors, allowing a system of electronic settlements and computerized distribution. IBM Japan is marketing the system to credit card firms, banks and other businesses.
