Few Americans would buy a home computer from IBM after the PCjr fiasco, and Europeans have never been given the opportunity, but IBM Japan is left to row its own boat, and has established a Personal Systems Marketing office to accelerate sales of its 80386SX-based PS/55Z Model 5530 ZSX personal computer, into the fireside market: 50 sales and support workers will move to the new office in Sanban-cho, Tokyo, where software development and sales will be co-ordinated; it will work with third party developers to create a version of Microsoft Windows for MS-DOS on the 55Z, and plans to make it compatible with peripherals designed for NEC’s PC-9801 line.
