IBM JAPAN – HEADING FOR IMPROVEMENT?

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM Corp chairman John Akers has been visiting IBM Japan Ltd and took time out to give one of his cheery messages, saying that the company’s performance hit bottom in the summer and that there are now signs of improvement: the worst is behind us, he said – our performance bottomed out during the summer, and is showing signs of improvement; we believe this fourth quarter will the strongest for us for the year… IBM Japan’s performance in the second half of 1991 will show improvement over the same period in 1990; we expect solid growth in large and mid-range systems, and software and services, our systems integrations business has about doubled and I expect we will maintain a similar pace into 1992.
