IBM JAPAN HAS A VM/PII AND A VM/MPI

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM Japan has confirmed to the Japan Times that not only does it has a VM implementation, VM/PII, to support Fujitsu’s mid-range operating system (CI No 799), it also has a VM/MPI version to cannibalise Hitachi’s operating systems: the news first leaked out from an IBM Japan customer, and the Hitachi version is already shipping while the Fujitsu one is due to be available in December; although the Hitachi and Fujitsu machines are IBM-com patible, they have additional features not found in the IBM machines, which is why special versions of VM are needed; the present offerings cover the mid-range machines of each company the top-end ones will be next.
