IBM JAPAN DECLARES WAR ON FUJITSU’s HOME BASE WITH VM

By CBR Staff Writer

Having to all intents and purposes lost its case against Fujitsu Ltd before the American Arbitration As-sociation, IBM has decided to wage all-out war on the Japanese company in its home market. IBM Japan has come out with a special version of what has always in theory been its best aggressive weapon, the VM operating system, configured specific-ally to guest Fujitsu’s proprietary mid-range operating system (presumably OSIV/X8, although that is not stated), alongside MVS on a 4381. The aim of the new VM/MP-II is of course to facilitate migration of users from Fujitsu to IBM hardware.
