IBM is being touted as a potential partner in an outsourcing venture with the Sabre Group, data processing arm of the large retailer Campeau Corp, currently in Chapter 11 bankruptcy: Computer Systems News says that Sabre Corp has been negotiating with four major companies, and it names IBM, Electronic Data Systems Corp and Andersen Consulting as three possibilities; Sabre is best known for its suite of retail software, and its first outside client is Macy & Co which signed a contract estimated at $30m; IBM has been tipped as a favourite since Sabre has three 3090-600S machines and a 400E that is to be replaced by another 600 machine; the company leases around $85m of IBM equipment, and account control could be a reason for any interest IBM might have in Sabre.
