IBM Ireland Ltd can say that all the company’s problems in 1991 were none of its doing, turning in a 5% increase in operating profit on turnover up 10%, with local business accounting for the lion’s share of the growth – up 12.4%, where exports were unchanged from 1990’s figure, the rest of Europe letting Ireland down. After-tax profit rose 33.1%. IBM also announced that new business it is giving to Applied Magnetics Ireland Ltd has created 15 new jobs at the company, bringing to 30 the number of staff employed at Applied Magnetics to support IBM.
