IBM HAS UNIX, NT WKSTNS FOR: “COLLABORATIVE CAD”

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM Corp has been showing off its shiny new RS/6000 workstations using the Power3 CPU, the first 64-bit PowerPC designed specifically for Unix. It’s claiming some kind of performance leadership. On the supporting bill are new IntelliStation Wintel boxes. IBM is emphasizing a whole raft of new Unix-NT interoperability and connectivity features to attract users that will, unlike Chrysler and Motorola, be using both operating systems as design points. It’s calling the work collaborative CAD.
