Touch screens would be all right if humans didn’t sweat, or could be prevailed upon to wear gloves, but despite the obvious drawbacks, IBM Corp has gone ahead an introduced the 8516 Touch Display for PS/2s: the new technology reacts not only to where the 14 colour screen is touched, but also how much pressure the user applies to the screen – more pressure increases the rate of repetitive functions such as the speed at which a user can scroll through a list; the touch function attaches to the PS/2 mouse port, so no adaptor is needed, and the mouse can be plugged into the 8516; no prices were available for the 8516.
