IBM Corp has set aside an astonishing $500m for worldwide marketing of OS/2, and Lee Resiwig, president of the Personal Software Products unit, says that he will spend tens of millions of dollars on marketing the launch of Warp, code-name for the newest version of OS/2. Speaking at the Windows Solutions conference in San Francisco, Reiswig made it clear IBM is going all out with Warp OS/2 and focusing its marketing specifically on consumers: We will be launching a consumer-oriented OS/2 with Warp, he told the software developers at the conference. Warp can run five applications concurrently in multitasking mode, and accessing the Internet and sending a facsimile message will be able to be done with two keystrokes. Installing it is said to require the user simply to key Enter. The first Warp releases are scheduled to ship next month.
