There’s been a lot written in the press recently about the shortage of qualified programmers and other technical professionals in the US and the related competition among high- tech companies to recruit them. Now IBM Corp is going the extra mile to meet with prospective employees – on the beach. IBM is going to Panama City, Florida to catch college students on spring break and discuss employment opportunities with the company in an (extremely) informal setting. Big Blue has set up a booth on the beach to woo revelers with the dynamic nature of IBM. Lest it’s presence go unnoticed, the company is creating a 20-ton sand sculpture of a Think Pad laptop – a virtual guarantee that even the drunkest students will know that something unusual is going on.
