IBM GO TO AMPEX FOR LIBRARY SUPPORT

IBM Corp is getting robotic tape libraries and helical scan tape drives from Redwood City, California-based Ampex Inc under an OEM contract: the Ampex DST 800 library supports on-line capacity of 6.4Tb in less than 21 square feet of floor space with average access time of less than 30 seconds to any file; the DST 600 drive supports cartridge capacities up to 165Gb and a data transfer rate of 15M-bytes per second, Ampex commented.
