IBM GIVES OEM CONTRACT FOR 3.5″ WINCHESTERS TO SEAGATE

By CBR Staff Writer

In a cryptic announcement, Seagate Technology Corp, Scotts Valley, California said that it had received a contract from IBM Corp for 3.5 Winchester disk drives. No details of capacities, delivery schedules or volumes were not made available. The announcement will fuel speculation that IBM intends to try again in the lap-top market with a high performance PS/2 model: there has been some speculation that the company was preparing to launch an 80386-based laptop in May: although they use 3.5 floppy disks, the Winchesters in the PS/2s are all 5.25 form factor drives.
