IBM’s new facilities management business – outsourcing, as the Americans so misleadlingly insist on calling it – is becoming so important to the company that it has created a separate division in the US to handle it. Called the IBM Systems Services Division, the new unit is part of the Applications Solutions organisation, which comes under US Marketing & Services. The activity was previously handled by the National Service Division. The company has also created a Marketing & Services Quality organisation responsible for guidance of market-driven quality as well as the Marketing & Services information systems strategy and application architecture essential to achieving quality goals.
