IBM Lotus said its Lotus Quickr team-based collaboration software was the first of its kind on the market to integrate wiki and blog applications and data into mainstream knowledge-worker desktops, including Lotus’ own personal productivity applications and those of rival Microsoft Office as well.

Wikis and blogs have traditionally been accessed as standalone applications on the desktop. However Lotus Quickr now extends its collaboration model to incorporate wikis, blogs and other social networking tools as part of shared content libraries and team workspaces.

The integration is achieved using mini-applications called connectors that hooks up Quickr to desktop applications. Right now users can share content from Notes, Sametime, Microsoft Windows Explorer, and Office via a shared Quickr library.

IBM Lotus is currently working on connector for Microsoft’s Outlook email software that is expected later this year. It is also planning to provide integration with IBM’s enterprise content management platforms – FileNet and DB2 Content Manager.

Pricing for Lotus Quickr starts at $70 per user. An enterprise community edition that includes Lotus Connections and Sametime software costs $195 per user.
