IBM FINALLY COMES OUT WITH A TRULY COMPETITIVE FRONT-END PROCESSOR FOR SNA USERS

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM yesterday duly brought its wide area networking offerings into the last quarter of the twentieth century with a new top-end 3745 communications processor that supports high-speed digital T 1 lines, a major new releases of the networking software components of Systems Network Architecture, and comprehensive X25 packet-switching support for the first time. The 3745 processor is the one that had been dubbed the 2725 – and there is as yet no new lower-end model; observers had been looking for a 2720 as well. IBM also added black-on-white screens for two 319X models, the new low-end Stratus machines, and enhancements to the new 3174 cluster controller that enables it to contribute more to network management with NetView. Details, p2.
