IBM Corp is expected to announce support for LU2 sessions in its Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking software. Routing of LU2, the predominant protocol in SNA networking, will enable APPN to support 3270 terminal applications and allow SNA users to main tain those applications. Computer Systems News says that APPN is meant to change SNA from a hierarchical, mainframe-based architecture to a peer-to-peer design which will be able to accomodate local area network traffic over SNA backbones. At present, APPN operates only in OS/400 and OS/2 environments and supports LU6.2 sessions, which is of limited value to the vast majority of users.
