IBM EXPECTED TO INTRODUCE MODEL 800 IN SYSTEM 38 LINE ON TUESDAY

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM will come out with a top end Model 800 in its System 38 database computer line next Tuesday, February 3, reckons Mike Newman of Pacific Associates Ltd, who knows more about System 38 than IBM ever will: he expects the new machine to include 370-type channels that will support 3380 disk drives and permit channel-to-channel attachment to 3090s; he also looks for the 9380 System 38-in-a-9370-rack, so that 38-type and 370-type CPUs can be mounted side-by-side for September.
