Under its plan to shuck off its workstation, personal computer and point-of-sale maintenance operations in the US into a joint venture – Technology Service Solutions Inc – with Eastman Kodak Co, which took over the point-of-sale terminal end on May (CI No 2,290), IBM Corp says that IBM customers will continue to hold maintenance contracts with IBM and use the existing phone number to request service; the new venture hangs out its shingle in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, but financial terms, and the share-out of equity in the new venture were not given, although it looks as if IBM should be the larger shareholder since it kicks in 2,200 of the 3,000 staff, with just 800 coming from Kodak.
